Vintage Javanese Gilded Brass Necklace with Charm Case & Antique Glass Beads

$300.00

This lovely necklace was created by Indonesian artist Devi Tana Hariman in the 1980s. The graduated hollow metal beads are gilded brass inspired by the ancient jewelry of Java. The central element is a gilded brass charm case with small jingling dangles. Antique white glass beads with yellow and orange dots alternate with the gilded brass beads. The white glass and the orange glass are both opaque, but the yellow is translucent. The artist collected antique beads from around the world for use in these creations. The necklace is unused, in the artist’s batik-print box, just as it was purchased by members of the U.S. diplomatic corps in Jakarta in 1989.

Necklace length is 20 inches. The charm case measures 1-3/4 inches long.
