This beautiful antique brooch originates from New Zealand in the last decades of the 19th century. It is made of extraordinarily fine translucent light green nephrite jade, consistent with the rarest type of pounamu, known as kahurangi. The Etruscan Revival-style end caps test as 9 karat yellow gold. They are engraved with X shapes and finished with gold balls. The tube-style hinge and C-clasp confirm the age of this lovely piece.
